Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

As part of our research investigating each light’s history, our team delved into the National Archive at Prague’s National Technical Museum to unearth these incredible original manufacturer’s catalogues and photographs. Using this material to guide our restoration process, the light’s original yet worn 1930s paint finish, reflector and original glass screen have all been carefully preserved. The height and angled lamp head can still be adjusted as per the intended design, making it an ideal statement task light.
