Decorative 1930s Art Deco pendant light

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

This one-off stepped glass opaline pendant started its chapter in the 1930s in Prague, former Czechoslovakia. Salvaged from a hallway in a private residence, its opaline glass and polished aluminium gallery make it a fantastic feature light. Venting to the upper gallery adds an element of up-lighting, making it a great addition to small spaces in halls, foyers and lounges.

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Restoring a light doesn’t necessarily mean making it ‘like new’. We often preserve the visible signs of age, such as spots of wear and patina, to give a hint about the light’s first story. Or we might reveal the bare metal, accentuating its build and design.

Supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, traditional silver braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
