Reclaimed Eastern Bloc oxidised bulkheads (S)

Era: 1950s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Once illuminating busy factory floors, these 1950s bulkheads started their chapter in the Eastern Bloc of former Czechoslovakia. Industrial and rectilinear by design, featuring an original prismatic glass lens and angled mounting, complemented by the deep russet tones of an oxisided steel enclosure. Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

These bulkheads were used in the Paramount series A Gentleman in Moscow, where Count Alexander Rostov is forced to live out his days at the Hotel Metropol. One can be spotted outside the hospital, with its oxidised enclosure and slanted prismatic glass adding the perfect industrial silhouette. You can read more about our feature on our projects page.
