Among his many inventions were the variable automotive speed gearbox, gas street lighting controls, and the ‘Horstmann Bogie’ suspension system; used on many Western tanks during WWII and for which he was awarded an OBE. Following the war, Horstmann joined forces to form Hadrill & Horstmann, famed for their Counterpoise lamps which are highly sought-after collector’s pieces.
