A run of mottled conical Eastern Bloc pendant lights constructed from an industrial derivative of Bakelite. These distinctive pendants make great feature lights above kitchen counters or bars.

Origin: Germany

German designs are famed for their clean lined and well engineered approach. The Bauhaus School played a major role in combining design with engineering during the late 1920s and early 1930s. A number of lights we salvage were influenced by Bauhaus School design. From the mid to late 20th century, Communist East Germany produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications, often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by the interesting surfaces and patinas in the vintage lights that we find. That’s why we tend not to repaint surfaces, instead committing to preserving, protecting and celebrating the heritage - and uniquely worn aesthetic - of each piece. For these particular Eastern Bloc pendants, the Bakelite shade has been polished and waxed to enhance its subtle mottled effect.

Supplied with new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of industrial black suspension chain, black braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
