Retro cut-glass ceiling light

These unusual ceiling lights are retro through and through, originally manufactured in the 1960s, once adorning the ceilings of a hotel in Prague, former Czechoslovakia. All original components remain preserved, including a vented main enclosure with its original paint finish and a striking circular moulded lens. Expect a bright, patterned illumination when lit, great in rows above bars or in counter tops in shops and restaurants.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

The restoration process our lighting goes through can take many months. To begin, we gently disassemble each light fitting, letting us spot any flaws and plan how best to bring it up to modern electrical standards. Then, our team of experts patiently restore each component by hand. Typically, this might mean: Soda-blasting – an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint; Polishing – to restore and revitalise the surface of the light; Lacquering – a sealing process that protects the light’s surface from further deterioration; Rewiring – so the light works perfectly, every time.
