Equire about this product

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Every one of our lights goes through a variety of refurbishment processes to bring it from the worn and often dilapidated state it arrives in, to being at a stage ready for your home. This may involve everything from stripping down and rewiring damaged and old components, to finishing and sealing the light to prevent further degradation to the surface. It’s a long and meticulous process, all carried out by our UK-based lighting experts.

Manufacturer: Walligraph

From the 1930s Walligraph produced some of the finest examples of early industrial lighting in Britain, comparable, yet widely overlooked in relation to the designs emanating from the Bauhaus during the same period. The company were known for their innovative scissor wall lights entitled the ‘Radialite’ the mechanism allowing people to use the light at their desk then fold it away when they had finished. Along with the wall lights the company also produced the elegant ‘Localite’ desk lights. As the 1930s printed marketing literature proclaimed 'Save your site with Localite.'
