Retro Czech crosshatch wall lights (clear)

Era: 1960s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Playing their part in a rich 200 year history of Bohemian glassmaking, these 1960s moulded glass lights once adorned hotel corridors in Plzeň, former Czechoslovakia. A clear glass shade with a crosshatch design casts a faint pattern when illuminated. Featuring a Bakelite base, these lights can be mounted on walls and ceilings, perfect for creating drama in smaller spaces in bars and restaurants.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. We have three guiding principles: to salvage the best lighting from the 1920s to the 1970s; to restore every piece sensitively - without compromising its character; and to restore each fixture to the highest modern standards.

A quick word from our customers

Beautiful Light!

I toyed with this light for ages before I bought it, thinking it was a lot of money. When I eventually ordered and received the light, I was not disappointed. I love this light, so heavy, chunky and in my eyes, gorgeous. It will look brilliant in my dining room, in my newly renovated farmhouse.
