Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of the former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by the interesting surfaces and patinas inherent in our vintage products. That’s why we tend not to repaint surfaces, instead committing to preserving the uniquely worn aesthetic of each piece. Once a salvaged light arrives in our workshop it is examined to determine its materiality and restoration process. Non-ferrous metals such as aluminium are often sealed using waxes, or occasionally left raw so the surface can develop an interesting lustre over time.

Our lights on the big screen

Did you know that our vintage lights regularly star in feature films such as Mission Impossible and hit TV series such as Warner Bros’ Pennyworth? This particular light was used in the TV series Catch-22. You can explore other collector’s pieces from the big screen in our vintage prop lighting collection. Versatile light

Great light. It looks very smart. I was initially worried that it might be slightly big for the room (we don't have high ceilings) but it looks great and I am really pleased with it.
