A substantial run of British pendant lights salvaged from the vast halls of Lobnitz Dock, one of the last-standing dock buildings on the River Clyde, Glasgow. These are stunning, imposing industrial timepieces comprising a two-part enamel shade, lacquered steel gallery and internal polished copper baffle.
Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.
View all lights from UKThe site from which these pendant lights were salvaged was the home of Lobnitz & Company. Founded in 1874, the shipbuilder specialised in the production of dredgers for more than 75 years. During this time some sixty war vessels were constructed for the Royal Navy, including HMS President - one of only three remaining First World War British warships now located in Blackfriars Bridge, London. In 1964, and in the face of declining business, the yard closed after some 1,300 dredgers, barges and tugs had been built at the site.
Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable, wire suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
