A large run of industrial pendant lights salvaged from a factory in Bulgaria. Polished aluminium pendants with a refined three-part enclosure. The original glass sits between the lower two parts while the upper element can be easily removed for easy access for re-lamping.
Much of the industrial lighting we salvage and restore from this former Eastern Bloc country was originally designed for use in extreme industrial locations. Lights designed and manufactured under Communist rule - the period from the end of the Second World War to the fall of the Berlin Wall - were defined by a clean industrial aesthetic, a simplicity of function over form. The same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. Most of the factories in which the lights once functioned now stand empty, awaiting their pending demolition.
View all lights from BulgariaWhere possible we retain the original finish of a light - it is part of its history and emphasises its heritage. However, sometimes leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. Some lights made from non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium, arrive so severely degraded we need to remove their outer layers to allow any further surface treatment to be applied. We do this using an environmentally friendly technique known as ‘soda blasting’. Soda blasting works by applying bicarbonate of soda to a surface under high pressure. The crystals explode at the point of impact and this ‘blasts’ the layer of degradation away - leaving the surface clean for the next stage in restoration.
Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension wire, elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable, chain suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
