Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

The restoration process our lights go through can take many months. To begin we gently disassemble each light fitting, letting us spot any flaws and plan how best to bring it up to modern electrical standards. Then our team of experts patiently restore each component by hand. This includes soda-blasting – an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint; polishing – to restore and revitalise the surface of the light; and rewiring – so the light works perfectly, every time.

About the lamp

This product is fitted with a new linear T5 35W energy saving fluorescent. The bulb has an average life of 20,000 hours, is located within an etched diffusion sleeve to prevent any glare and creates an even distribution of warm light (2700K).

Alternatively, the product can be fitted with the latest in linear LED technology. The LED bulb has an average life of 50,000 hours, is located within the same etched diffusion sleeve to prevent any glare and creates even distribution of warm light (2700K or 3000k). The LED option is supplied with either a switched or dimmable remote module (Leading/Trailing edge, Dali/DMX or 1-10v). Please contact the studio for more information.

Whats the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison, an LED bulb is 2475lm, a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 2460lm and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.

Heyes

Manufacturer: Heyes

We can't be certain of the exact origins of Heyes and Co. of Water Heyes Electrical Works, Wigan, but we think the company was established in the early part of the 20th century with the first records we’ve uncovered being dated 1922. For over 50 years Heyes specialised in the design and manufacture of industrial and explosion proof lighting intended for use in extreme locations such as oil refineries and the mining industry. Then, in 1986 the company was acquired by Petrel Ltd and the Heyes name disappeared.

A quick word from our customers

Beautiful Light!

I toyed with this light for ages before I bought it, thinking it was a lot of money. When I eventually ordered and received the light, I was not disappointed. I love this light, so heavy, chunky and in my eyes, gorgeous. It will look brilliant in my dining room, in my newly renovated farmhouse.

A real gem!

What a great little product, saves masses of time and cost rewiring. Will be back for more!

Versatile light

Great light. It looks very smart. I was initially worried that it might be slightly big for the room (we don't have high ceilings) but it looks great and I am really pleased with it.

Thank you skinflint for allowing me to add character to my espresso bar and work desk space! And thanks as well for the fabulous customer service.
