G.E.C prismatic ceiling lights

Era: 1960s Origin: UK

Designed for illuminating industrial mills in mid-century Britain, these 1960s surface-mounted lights were manufactured by G.E.C in Coventry, U.K. Salvaged from the original factory, each prismatic glass lens remains preserved having never been used. Now converted for use as wall or ceiling lights and mounted to a galvanised steel enclosure. Great for bright illumination in small spaces, or in multiples in bars and restaurants.

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by different materials and the interesting patinas that develop on their surface over time. Celebrating each light’s age, authenticity and individual character, we restore wherever possible with a 'light touch'. Here, the foxed glass on the original prismatic glass lenses has been left. Meanwhile, behind the scenes you can rest assured your light is ready for modern-day use. Giving you a truly unique vintage light with a story.
