Oversize explosion proof industrial wall lights by 'Mapelec of Amiens'. Linished and powder coat lacquered steel enclosure with domed glass and manufacturers plaque. Can be used in either a vertical or horizontal orientation making them suitable for wall and ceiling applications.

Vintage French lighting is often defined by the industrial lights of Jielde and Mapelec, but lighting companies throughout France have historically designed and manufactured lights for all applications. This variety is reflected in the styles of lights we salvage and restore - from the decorative Art Nouveau and Art Deco to the classic harder edged, clean-lined industrial aesthetic.

Restoration

Where possible we retain the original finish of a light - it is part of its history and emphasises its heritage. However, sometimes leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. Some lights made from non-ferrous metals, such as copper, arrive so severely degraded we need to remove their outer layers to allow any further surface treatment to be applied. We do this with a technique known as ‘aqua blasting’. Water is mixed with glass particles and applied under high pressure to the surface to ‘blast’ the layer of degradation away - leaving the surface clean for the next stage in restoration.
