Elegant British street lights by 'Maxlume'

Luminaire Reference: 13_1558

Vintage British street lights by 'Maxlume' salvaged from the turbine test facilities at Pyestock, Fleet, UK. Circa 1950. Waxed and sealed cast steel enclosure with original paint finish containing interesting surface patina, vitreous enamelled reflector with original glass bowls. Supplied with new bayonet (B22) lamp holders, 2mtrs of industrial steel suspension chain, elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate.

The National Gas Turbine Establishment (NGTE Pyestock) was established in the early 1950s and was the prime site in the UK for design and development of gas turbine and jet engines. For over 50 years Pyestock was at the forefront of gas turbine development. It was probably the largest site of its kind in the world. V bomber, Harrier, Tornado and Concorde engines were tested on site. The power of the test houses allowed Concorde's engines to be tested at 2,000 mph.
