This Francis Searchlights floor light started its journey on a fire engine in the UK in the 1950s. A testament to its rich history, this searchlight retains all original features including a manufacturer’s label and an adjustable brass tripod mount. Now converted for use as a floor light, perfect for illuminating feature walls, store displays, or simply as a feature piece itself.

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

Vintage lights may sound delicate in nature. But in the mid 20th-Century, lights were manufactured with care and designed to last. Prominent manufacturer’s markings help us identify each light’s accurate origin and era so that each little piece of history can be preserved through sensitive restoration techniques.
