A 1950s Osram Vitalux medical heat therapy light. Sensitively refurbished by hand, the wall mounted light can be angled making in perfect for task lighting. Featuring a large polished aluminium shade, wooden stem, painted steel shade juncture and base with maker's label.
German designs are famed for their clean lined and well engineered approach. The Bauhaus School played a major role in combining design with engineering during the late 1920s and early 1930s. A number of lights we salvage were influenced by Bauhaus School design. From the mid to late 20th century, Communist East Germany produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications, often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.
View all lights from GermanyOnce a light has undergone preparatory treatment and the degraded surface has been removed, we then begin the journey to bring it back to life. At skinflint we tend not to repaint surfaces, this would make the lights look too ‘new’ and they’d lose some of their individuality. So, with ferrous metals such as iron and steel, we linish the surface on large rotating wire wheels adding depth, grain and highlights to the casting details and bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina.
The light is supplied rewired and tested with a new screw (E27) lamp holder and traditional twisted black braided cable.
