Antique wall lights by GECoRAY

A stunning pair of early 1920s silver backed glass reflectors by British manufacturer 'GEC'. The 'GECoRAY' was originally designed as a range of reflectors of superior quality scientifically designed for the illumination of shop windows.

UK

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

The lights have been sensitively restored and refurbished retaining the original surface finish. The glass shades are double plated with a pure silver surface, then copper plated, and finished with a satin silver to the outer surface. There are slight signs of wear to the products but this adds a sense of character and age. The clearly visible manufacture's label also emphasises the heritage of the lights: 'GECoRAY: Made in England'. The original brushed aluminium gallery is fitted to a new hand made swan neck wall bracket, making the lights perfect for focusing light on a wall or for lighting signage. The extract shown is from the original manufacturer's catalogue by 'GEC' Dated 1926.
