An impressive vintage medical lamp by Perihel, retaining its 1930s original painted and raw finish. The twin-headed lamp, each individually controlled/switched, would have once been used for infrared and ultraviolet light therapy. Now fully restored and converted for use as a stunning table light.
Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.
View all lights from UKPatiently restored by hand, each component has been through a sensitive and considered refurbishment. The chrome plated arms show slight signs of wear and have been waxed and sealed. All of the manufacturer’s original ‘Perihel’ labelling is intact - a striking reminder of the lamp’s heritage.
The light is supplied rewired and tested with 2no. new screw (E27) lamp holders and 2 metres traditional twisted black braided cable, toggle switch and a plug.

Perihel was a highly successful manufacturer of light therapy lamps for both professional and home use, manufacturing elegant light therapy lamps for the clinic and the home. We are unsure of their exact origins but from advertising literature we have in our own archive we can be sure that in the 1930s the company was based in Germany with production in Prague. Then, again based on its product pamphlets, by the 1940s and 1950s it had bases in the UK at Edge Street and Rabbit Row in London.
