1940s G.E.C Floor Light

Era: 1940s Origin: UK

This imposing floor light by G.E.C started its journey in Britain in the 1940s. Converted from its original use as a floodlight, now sensitively restored and mounted to a WWII telescope stand. A two-part polished aluminium enclosure features an original flameproof glass lens and manufacturer’s markings, whilst a wooden stand enables adjustable height with an easily positionable shade. Great for lounges, lobbies, bedrooms and studies.

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

The careful restoration process our lighting goes through can take many months. Not only do we patiently restore each light and its components by hand, but we also take the time to investigate its history. This catalogue extract is from our own internal manufacturer's archive and is the original 1940s G.E.C specification details for the light.

"Genius Full Circle initative"

Love the lights, love your ethos. Absolutely what more companies need to be doing. I have my Retro Czech Ceiling Lights (V2) in my dining room and the spray of light they give off is gorgeous and unusual.
