Imposing industrial pendant lights by Polish manufacturer Mesko. Dating back to the 1960s, these steel shades would have once illuminated the streets of former Czechoslovakia. Sensitively restored and refinished, these street lights feature the original manufacturer's marks and a rich surface patina.
Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.
View all lights from Czechoslovakia (former)Once our collection of Polish street lights has been salvaged, they are brought home to our studio and the meticulous process of restoration begins. Each pendant is disassembled and every component examined. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each piece by hand. These particular street lights have been soda blasted (an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint), before being refinished, powder coated and rewired for modern day use, ready for the next chapter of their lives.
Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable, wire suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
