XL opaline foyer pendants

Era: 1950s Origin: U.S.A

Once illuminating townhouse foyers in Manhattan, these 1950s pendants are decorative by design. An extra-large opaline glass shade provides an even, diffused glow, complimented by an original polished brass gallery. Perfect for bringing style and sophistication to modern day hallways and living rooms.

Origin: U.S.A

Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

Once we’ve salvaged a collection of lights, we bring them home to our studio and begin the slow process of restoration. Each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand. That often begins with soda-blasting (an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint), before hand-polishing, lacquering and rewiring.
