XL British factory pendants

Era: 1950s Origin: UK

Lighting the way for a new age of British industry after the widespread destruction of WW2, these XL 1950s pendants were salvaged from an industrial warehouse in Wolverhampton. A two-part vitreous enamelled shade features wear and patina indicative of its long industrial life. An oxidised treatment on the upper gallery provides warmth and contrast. Perfect for adding downlighting in shops and restaurants.

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

Each and every light that we find goes through a variety of processes to bring it from the worn and often dilapidated state it arrives in, to a stage where it is ready for modern-day use. The first and most crucial stage is fully dismantling each piece - we do this even if we have many of the same identical lights - allowing us to undertake an in-depth review of its construction, state of repair, and map its journey through to restoration.
