XL 1950s Hungarian pendants

Era: 1950s Origin: Hungary

Salvaged from a railway station outside of Budapest, these oversized Hungarian pendants were originally manufactured in the 1950s. Imposing and industrial by design, each two-part vitreous enamelled shade features original manufacturer’s markings and venting that adds character. A striking convex glass lens draws the eye, making these great statement pieces for restaurants, bars and shops.

Origin: Hungary

We salvage high volumes of industrial and decorative lighting from this landlocked former Eastern Bloc country. Hungarian industrial enamel shades are often available in blue or white, whereas the decorative glassware has more of a clean line and timeless design. In the mid to late 20th century, the Communist east produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoring vintage lights in the workshop

Restoration

Restoring a light doesn’t necessarily mean making it ‘like new’. We often preserve the visible signs of age, such as spots of wear and patina, to give a hint about the light’s first story. Or we might reveal the bare metal, accentuating its build and design.
