Vintage German railway lights

Era: 1950s Origin: Germany

Vintage railway lights salvaged from defunct signalling equipment outside of Berlin, Germany. These pendants would work well in a commercial and residential environments to illuminate a wall, floor or object.

Germany

Origin: Germany

German designs are famed for their clean lined and well engineered approach. The Bauhaus School played a major role in combining design with engineering during the late 1920s and early 1930s. A number of lights we salvage were influenced by Bauhaus School design. From the mid to late 20th century, Communist East Germany produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications, often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

This stunning light has a polished aluminium enclosure, original glass lens and is fitted and a new suspension bracket which allows the light to be angled. Where possible we retain the original finish of a light - it is part of its history and emphasises its heritage. However, sometimes, like with this fitting, leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. Some lights made from non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium, arrive so severely degraded we need to remove their outer layers to allow any further surface treatment to be applied.

Product details

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension wire, elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate.(If you would prefer another colour cable, chain suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).
