Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.
View all lights from UKOnce we’ve salvaged a collection of lights, we bring them home to our studio and begin the slow process of restoration. Each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand. That often begins with soda-blasting (an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint), before hand-polishing, lacquering and rewiring.
Supplied with new bronzed cord-grip bayonet (B22) lamp holders, 2mtrs of traditional black braided cable and ceiling suspension plate.

Associated Electrical Industries (AEI) was established in 1928, a result of a merger between two well known rival electrical companies - Metropolitan-Vickers and British Thomson-Houston. Although they produced a selection of lights alongside other electrical devices, it wasn’t until 1956 that AEI Lamps and Lighting Co. was formed. By 1961 their lighting production had become so successful it became a company in its own right, retaining the brand name AEI until the company was taken over in 1964 to form part of British Lighting Industries.

Love the lights, love your ethos. Absolutely what more companies need to be doing. I have my Retro Czech Ceiling Lights (V2) in my dining room and the spray of light they give off is gorgeous and unusual.
