U.S.A

Origin: U.S.A

Lighting design in the U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

This light is fitted with new glass screens which are etched to provide a nice diffusion of light when the product is lit. Where possible we retain the original finish of a light - it is part of its history and emphasises its heritage. However, sometimes leaving a surface as we find it just isn’t possible. Some lights made from non-ferrous metals, such as copper, arrive so severely degraded we need to remove their outer layers to allow any further surface treatment to be applied. We do this with a technique known as ‘aqua blasting’. Water is mixed with glass particles and applied under high pressure to the surface to ‘blast’ the layer of degradation away - leaving the surface clean for the next stage in restoration.

Crouse Hinds

Manufacturer: Crouse Hinds

Crouse Hinds is one of the oldest light manufacturers in the U.S. and were founded during 1897 in Syracuse, New York. Initially producing a patented tram car headlight, the firm grew to produce (amongst other items) switches, electrical conduits, traffic lights, airport lighting and even the lighting for Panama Canal. The company name is still in use today as a subsidiary of Cooper Industries, however the traffic signal production ended in 1981.

A quick word from our customers

Beautiful Light!

I toyed with this light for ages before I bought it, thinking it was a lot of money. When I eventually ordered and received the light, I was not disappointed. I love this light, so heavy, chunky and in my eyes, gorgeous. It will look brilliant in my dining room, in my newly renovated farmhouse.
