Salvaged theatre projectors by StrandEra: 1950s Origin: UK
Original 'Pat 743' spotlights manufactured by 'Strand Electric', international theatre lighting specialsits. The lights were salvaged from a school theatre hall in Hertfordshire, UK.
Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.View all lights from UK
A substantial brushed and lacquered steel body provides a nice contrast with the polished aluminium lens guard to the front of the light. The original Fresnel glass lens has been retained and angling the light enables direction of light to be focused where needed. The extract shown is from our own internal manufacturer's archive and taken from the 'Strand Electric, Lighting for entertainment' Dated 1963.
Each light is supplied tested and rewired with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2 meters of traditional twisted black braided cable, industrial steel suspension chain and a ceiling mounting plate.

Strand Electric was founded in 1914 by theatre electricians Arthur Earnshaw and Phillip Sheridan at 19-24 Floral Street, London. Over the next 50 years Strand became the UK and Europe's principal manufacturers of stage lighting and theatre equipment. In 1968, Strand was purchased by the famous Rank Film Corporation and became Rank Strand. Strand was eventually bought from Rank by a venture capitalist group in the late 1990s. Today, Strand Lighting is still run as a separate, independent company within Royal Philips Lighting, and continues as a leading name in stage, television and motion picture lighting.View all Strand Electric Lights
