Salvaged prismatic Polish pendant lights

Era: 1960s Origin: Poland

Prismatic pendant lights salvaged from an industrial factory within Gdansk, Poland. The polished aluminium enclosure still retains the original cast maker’s mark and the linear prismatic glass reflector, which offers a striking pattern glow when illuminated.

Poland

Origin: Poland

Many of the products we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc were produced in Poland. As with the majority of lights designed and manufactured under Communist rule - during the period from the end of the Second World War to the fall of the Berlin wall - they are defined by a clean industrial aesthetic, with the same design often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by different materials and the interesting patinas that develop on their surface with age. That’s why we tend not to repaint our lights, instead retaining their authenticity and individual character. Different materials require different restoration processes, so here ferrous metals such as aluminium are often sealed using crystalline waxes, or occasionally left raw so the surface can develop an interesting lustre over time.

Beautiful Light!

I toyed with this light for ages before I bought it, thinking it was a lot of money. When I eventually ordered and received the light, I was not disappointed. I love this light, so heavy, chunky and in my eyes, gorgeous. It will look brilliant in my dining room, in my newly renovated farmhouse.
