Reclaimed railway light lenses (V4)

Era: 1950s Origin: Hungary

Prismatic glass lenses reclaimed from railway signalling equipment in Hungary. These stepped amber lenses have been transformed into fantastic feature pendants. Small amounts of wear to the lens surface emphasises the age and heritage of the products. Also available in red, blue and turquoise colours.

Origin: Hungary

We salvage high volumes of industrial and decorative lighting from this landlocked former Eastern Bloc country. Hungarian industrial enamel shades are often available in blue or white, whereas the decorative glassware has more of a clean line and timeless design. In the mid to late 20th century, the Communist east produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

Once a light has undergone preparatory treatment and any degraded surfaces have been removed, we begin the restoration journey to bring it back to life. At skinflint we try not to repaint surfaces, instead sticking true to the heritage and preserving the individuality of each piece. So, with ferrous metals such as iron and steel, we finish the surface on large rotating wire wheels to add depth and grain, highlighting any original casting details and bringing out the light’s character through surface and patina.

Product details

Each light is supplied with a new bayonet (B22) lamp holder, 2mtrs of elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable please just ask).

A quick word from our customers

Light fantastic

Fantastic light and flex... We will be back for more! Service was unimprovable.

Versatile light

Great light. It looks very smart. I was initially worried that it might be slightly big for the room (we don't have high ceilings) but it looks great and I am really pleased with it.

- Carineh | Oxfordshire | UK

Just what I had been looking for

I was very happy with the products I received. They arrived quickly and were packed brilliantly and professionally. There was no way they were going to be damaged in transit.

Everyone adores our lights

We adore skinflint lights. Thank you for our latest buy retro Czechoslovakian pendant (V2). We love it, as well as the 1950s Polish street light and industrial pendant lighting we bought from you. We hope you like how we have used them in our home.
