Oxidised Hungarian factory shades (MK3)

Era: 1950s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

A large run of large Eastern Bloc factory lights salvaged from industrial sites in Hungary. Featuring a vitreous enamelled steel shade with contrasting rim detail and a waxed and sealed oxidised steel enclosure. Sensitively restored, the enamel shows slight localised wear in line with their industrial heritage and age. A classic pendant above a kitchen island.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Once we’ve sensitively salvaged a collection of vintage lights, we bring them safely home to our studio and begin the meticulous process of restoration. Each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand.

A quick word from our customers

1940s industrial lights

The quality of what I bought (being around a third of the cost of their top end items) is exceptional. Recommended.
