Hungarian factory shades (MK1CB)

Era: 1940s Origin: Hungary

Salvaged from an industrial site in Hungary, this enamel factory shade dates back to the 1940s. Comprising a charcoal blue enamelled reflector and a brushed lacquered steel gallery, the small characterful signs of wear to the enamel reflect the industrial heritage of this piece.

Origin: Hungary

We salvage high volumes of industrial and decorative lighting from this landlocked former Eastern Bloc country. Hungarian industrial enamel shades are often available in blue or white, whereas the decorative glassware has more of a clean line and timeless design. In the mid to late 20th century, the Communist east produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

Each and every light that we find goes through a variety of processes to bring it from the worn and often dilapidated state it arrives in, to a stage where it is ready for modern-day use. From stripping down and rewiring, to applying a finish and sealing the light preventing further degradation to the surface, the longevity of each light is preserved for decades more to come.
