G.E.C 1960s prismatic ceiling lights

Era: 1960s Origin: UK

Salvaged from a G.E.C electrics factory in Coventry, U.K, these prismatic glass ceiling lights started their journey in the 1960s. Originally designed for illuminating industrial mills in mid-century Britain, each glass lens brings bright illumination to modern interiors. Now converted for use as ceiling lights, rodded and mounted to a galvanised steel enclosure. A great addition to entrances in bars, shops and restaurants, in solos as well as multiples.

UK

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

At skinflint we are fascinated by different materials and the interesting patinas that develop on their surface over time. Celebrating each light’s age, authenticity and individual character, we restore wherever possible with a 'light touch'. Here, the foxed glass on the original prismatic glass lenses has been left. Meanwhile, behind the scenes you can rest assured your light is ready for modern-day use. Giving you a truly unique vintage light with a story.

A quick word from our customers

Great Lamp

Love the lamp - it is just what we needed to set off our new kitchen - will have pride of place over the breakfast bar. Excellent service from the company - was notified that delivery would be late by one day but was kept informed. Many thanks.

A piece of history

We found exactly what we wanted at skinflint: large industrial pendant lights from an old Dunlop Aerospace factory. They fill the space beautifully and we often get asked where they were sourced. With such heritage attached to them, they are like a piece of history that adds to the modern vintage feel we wanted to create.

Industrial style pendants

Our kitchen is now finished and the lights we bought from you are a perfect fit! We couldn't find a better match and your service has been fantastic.
