Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece we salvage. This ensures every light we reclaim lives on to tell its tale: from its original use, to how it came to be salvaged and restored. The next part of the story is up to you.

A classic design of its time, the white opaline glass produces an even glow and distribution of light when illuminated.
