Eastern Bloc LED Lighting (V7)

Era: 1960s Origin: Germany

Surface-mounted fluorescent lights salvaged from the former Eastern Bloc, now converted for modern LED technology. Industrial in heritage and featuring the original glass tube, support rods and manufacturer's plaques, the authentic painted surface has also been retained to the cast-aluminium body giving each light a unique surface patina. A refined piece that can be mounted on the wall and ceiling.

Germany

Origin: Germany

German designs are famed for their clean lined and well engineered approach. The Bauhaus School played a major role in combining design with engineering during the late 1920s and early 1930s. A number of lights we salvage were influenced by Bauhaus School design. From the mid to late 20th century, Communist East Germany produced a wide variety of lights for both industrial, commercial and residential applications, often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. This ensures every light we reclaim lives on to tell its tale: from its original use, to how it came to be salvaged and restored. The next part of the story is up to you.

About the LED lamp

This product is fitted with the latest in energy-saving technology. The LED lamp, with an average life of 50,000 hours, sits within an etched diffusion sleeve to prevent glare and create an even distribution of warm light (2700-3000K) when illuminated. It is supplied as standard with a non-dimmable switched lamp. Alternatively, a dimmable lamp with a remote module (Leading/Trailing edge, Dali/DMX or 1-10v) can be supplied - please contact the studio for more information.

What’s the difference in brightness between a LED bulb, a fluorescent bulb and a traditional 60w filament bulb?

In simple terms, bulb brightness is measured in lumens. Lumens (denoted by lm) are a measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from a bulb or light source. As a comparison: this LED bulb is 2475lm; a fluorescent bulb of the same length is 2460lm, and a traditional 60w filament bulb is 800lm.

Love the lights, love your ethos. Absolutely what more companies need to be doing. I have my Retro Czech Ceiling Lights (V2) in my dining room and the spray of light they give off is gorgeous and unusual.
