Czech teardrop opaline pendants

Era: 1950s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

A large run of elegant 1950s teardrop pendants, salvaged from a school in Prague. A hand blown glass opaline shade produces a soft, even glow of illumination when lit, complimented by a cable-suspended polished brass gallery. A great finishing touch to hallways, lobbies, kitchens and dining rooms in need of sleek and simple lighting.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

vintage lighting restoration at skinflint workshop

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. We have three guiding principles: to salvage the best lighting from the 1920s to the 1970s; to restore every piece sensitively - without compromising its character; and to restore each fixture to the highest modern standards.
