Czech opaline glass pendants

Era: 1930s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

These stepped glass opaline pendants started life in the 1930s in Prague, the capital city of former Czechoslovakia. Once illuminating homes and hotel lobbies, they're designed to be eye-catching, featuring an unusually striking brass gallery and stem, with decorative details. Manufacturer's marks to the glass opaline adds to the heritage story, making these true statement pieces for homes, or boutique shops.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Vintage light restoration in skinflints workshop

Restoration

The final step of the restoration process of each light is reassembly. All of the components, both new and refurbished, are meticulously pieced together in our workshops. Each light is then photographed and added to our collection alongside information about its origins and history we’ve discovered through our research. What happens next is up to you.
