American vintage opaline pendants

Era: 1930s Origin: U.S.A

Vintage opaline glass pendants light from the 1930s in typical Art Deco style, salvaged from the USA and complete with their original bronze plated galleries. The enclosed glass shade produces a warm and subtle glow when illuminated. Sensitively restored into an elegant feature light for the home.

U.S.A

Origin: U.S.A

Unlike the communist Eastern Bloc countries, lighting design in mid-century U.S.A. benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time designing and producing similar products for the same market, often with only slight differences in their style. Due to the location we rarely have the opportunity to reclaim and restore light fixtures from the U.S.A., but some of our perennial favourites are the old signal lights that adorned the highways of the midwest. We reconfigure and restore these timeless classics into functional pendant lights, for both residential and commercial use.

Restoration

Once we’ve salvaged a collection of lights, we bring them home to our studio and begin the meticulous process of restoration. Each light is disassembled and we examine every component for damage and flaws, so we know which can be kept, and which need to be replaced. We then hand over to our experts – in-house and locally – to carefully restore each component by hand. That often begins with soda-blasting (an environmentally friendly way to remove old paint), before hand-polishing, lacquering and rewiring.

Product details

Each light is supplied with a new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of suspension chain, traditional old gold braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable, wire suspension or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).

A quick word from our customers

Great Lamp

Love the lamp - it is just what we needed to set off our new kitchen - will have pride of place over the breakfast bar. Excellent service from the company - was notified that delivery would be late by one day but was kept informed. Many thanks.

A piece of history

We found exactly what we wanted at skinflint: large industrial pendant lights from an old Dunlop Aerospace factory. They fill the space beautifully and we often get asked where they were sourced. With such heritage attached to them, they are like a piece of history that adds to the modern vintage feel we wanted to create.
