1960s halo opaline pendants

Era: 1960s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Once illuminating restaurants in Prague, former Czechoslovakia, these 1960s retro pendants are distinctive by design. Each opaline shade features a circular halo ring and an open bottomed design, bringing both ambient lighting and a touch of downlighting to modern-day interiors. An original Bakelite gallery makes these sleek and sophisticated, great in bars and restaurants over kitchen islands, or as statement pieces in lobbies and hallways.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

Over the years, we’ve rescued and restored thousands of lights that would otherwise may have ended up in landfill - examining, refurbishing and updating one part at a time. But we don’t only piece together the light’s components. We take the time to investigate its history, studying old catalogues for clues and assembling the whole story.

Versatile light

Great light. It looks very smart. I was initially worried that it might be slightly big for the room (we don't have high ceilings) but it looks great and I am really pleased with it.
