1960s decorative Czech pendants

Era: 1960s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Beginning life in the nationalised factories of former Czechoslovakia, these 1960s pendants upheld the legacy of Bohemian glassmaking when it was threatened by communism. Salvaged from a private residence in Prague, a cut-glass shade featuring an intricate diamond pattern casts a bright glow when illuminated. Open detailing to the top of the shade provides an element of uplighting, perfect for bars, restaurants or entrances.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. All original electrical elements are removed and replaced with brand new, certified components (EN60598 if your electrician asks). Any pre-wired lights are then rewired, tested and certified in line with electrical safety standards BS EN 60598. That way you have a light you can rely on every day, for decades to come.

Product details

Each light is supplied with a new (E14) lamp holder, 2 mtrs of elephant grey braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. If you would prefer another colour cable or an E12 lamp holder (USA), please just ask.
