Designed by famed NAPAKO designer Josef Hurka, this one-off 1950s pendant was born when industry was nationalised under communism in former Czechoslovakia. Sensitively restored without compromising the original factory finish, a chrome plated enclosure houses an etched glass lens, producing a striking glow when lit. A true collector’s piece, great for commercial receptions, hotels and lobbies. A smaller version is also available.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each piece. We have three guiding principles: To salvage the best lighting from the 1920s to the 1970s; To restore every piece sensitively - without compromising its character; To restore each fixture to the highest modern standards. Every light we reclaim has two tales to tell - its original use, and how it came to be salvaged. We’ll let you know its history but the next chapter is up to you.

NAPAKO is a lighting manufacturer founded in 1919 in Prague, former Czechoslovakia. Considered a collective NAPAKO worked alongside various designers in the early twentieth century, most notably with highly acclaimed designer Josef Hurka. Hurka began his career designing electrical appliances before specialising in household lighting, including ceiling and floor lamps. NAPAKO pieces designed by Hurka are considered collectibles and are to this day, highly sought after and awarded in the lighting design industry.
