Equire about this product

Origin: UK

Lighting design in the UK benefitted from a free market. Different companies were working at the same time, designing and producing similar products for the same market. Often with only slight differences in their style, they constantly upgraded and improved their original designs. The products we salvage come from the old industrial heartland of England. This area of the UK was once the boiler room of the British economy - from the potteries of Stoke, through the engineering works of Birmingham, to the wool, textile and cotton mills of Oldham and Manchester.

Restoration

At skinflint restoring a light doesn’t necessarily mean making it ‘like new’. We often preserve the visible signs of age and interesting spots of wear and patina in a testament to the light’s first story. Other times we might reveal the bare metal, accentuating its build and design. Whatever the restoration process, you can be sure you are receiving a truly unique vintage light fitting.

Product details

Each light is supplied with new screw (E27) lamp holder, 2mtrs of bronze suspension chain, traditional old gold braided cable and ceiling mounting plate. (If you would prefer another colour cable or an E26 lamp holder for use in the USA, please just ask).

Manufacturer: Mazdalux

Mazdalux was the trade name for the industrial lighting section of British Thomson-Houston, with Mazda being the brand applied to its filament lamps. In the main, Mazdalux focused on the production of steel enamelled reflector lighting from its central UK production plant in Rugby, Warwickshire. In comparison to other manufacturers of the time, production was relatively modest, making these quite rare examples of industrial lighting from the early 1930s through to the 1950s.
