1920s Czech chandelier

Era: 1920s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

A stunning one-off ceiling light, salvaged from a residential interior in the Czech Republic. With strong Art Deco influences and elegantly curved pewter plated arms. The lower hemispherical glass and three globes provide even distribution of light when illuminated.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

Restoration

Forming part of our Spring Summer collection, this chandelier is a 1920s original from the Art Deco era. Art Deco took its design inspiration largely from the Machine Age. In the difficult years after WW1 artists and designers found inspiration and positivity in the new and exciting era of the jet engine, which promised a more positive future and is to be found reflected in the elegant lines and modern materials of the lights in this collection.
