1920s Art Deco opaline glass chandelier

Era: 1920s Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Hand crafted at the height of the glitz and glamour of the 1920s, this one-off Art Deco chandelier once illuminated the grand entrance of a Prague townhouse in former Czechoslovakia. Three tinted opaline globes sit on curved metal arms casting a warm, even glow when illuminated. One central globe is mounted at the base of a large central baluster for a decorative silhouette. Perfect for making a statement in entrances.

Origin: Czechoslovakia (former)

Much of the lighting we salvage and restore from the former Eastern Bloc was produced in the manufacturing powerhouses of former Czechoslovakia. Under Communist rule the same design was often manufactured in three scaled versions to cater for varying bulb wattage. The country is also famed for its beautiful glassware, with both wall and ceiling opaline glass lights often being used in public and residential settings, such as housing blocks and schools.

restoring vintage lights in the skinflint workshop

Restoration

In the mid 20th century, lights were designed with care and made to last. The work we do at skinflint is based on respecting and preserving the heritage of each vintage piece we salvage. This ensures every light we reclaim lives on to tell its tale: from its original use, to how it came to be salvaged and restored. The next part of the story is up to you...
