Why we’ve signed the Better Business Act

From our founding commitment more than a decade ago to keep vintage lights in use forever, to the launch of our Full Circle buy-back initiative, and our journey to becoming a certified B Corporation, at skinflint we believe the best way to do ethical business is to reach out to businesses in our community, learn and lead others by example. Which is why we have signed the Better Business Act, calling for a cleaner, greener and fairer future for all.

"We all have a responsibility to look at how businesses balance profit with purpose. True success should not be measured against profitability alone but alongside the environmental impact of operations, social performance, public transparency and legal accountability… that's why we all back this bill" - skinflint Director and Co-founder, Chris Miller

What is the Better Business Act?

The Better Business Act will transform the way we do business, so that every single company in the UK, whether big or small, takes ownership of its social and environmental impact.

skinflint is encouraged by the fact that the Better Business Act is a business-led campaign, driven by leaders from 600+ forward-thinking companies such as Patagonia, Innocent, BrewDog and John Lewis, who recognise that the current law is outdated for today's business culture, and who have proven that this new approach has wide-reaching benefits for everyone.

Why we’ve signed the Better Business Act:

  • The world needs every business at its best - creating good jobs, adding value to society and taking responsibility for their environmental impact.
  • The Better Business Act will amend section 172 of The Companies Act. This will ensure that company directors are responsible for advancing the interests of stakeholders such as their workers, customers and communities, alongside those of wider society and the environment.
  • This is a unique opportunity to demonstrate UK leadership on the global stage – driving innovation, accelerating progress to net zero, and aligning with the government’s ambition to build a better future for our climate.

Please join us in signing the Better Business Act and share it amongst your network. Doing so ensures we have the greatest weight possible behind it from the business community as the campaign is put to parliamentarians, and so work can then begin to have it passed into legislation.
