Murmuration of starlings on the River Shannon

Heralding the start of winter a murmuration of starlings moving across the sky making the kind of patterns more usually associated with physics or art is one of the natural worlds' most breathtaking phnomena. But sadly due to loss of pasture land and over use of chemicals in farming our starling population is in decline and they are now on the RSPB critical list.

This surprise murmuration was caught on film- by  Sophie Windsor-Clive and Liberty Smith as they rowed across the Shannon river in their canoe. Spend a couple of minutes watching, it will take your breath away.
