From its site in Holbrook Lane, Coventry in the industrial heartlands of England, the now defunkt and soon to be demolished Dunlop Aerospace Braking Systems designed, developed and manufactured cutting edge carbon composite braking systems and lightweight alloy wheels for the aerospace industry from the 1920’s onwards.
The Dunlop company itself has a rich history. It was founded in 1888 by John Boyd Dunlop who, as he watched his young son struggle over the cobbled streets of Dublin on his solid rubber wheeled tricycle, came up with the bright idea of wrapping the tricycles wheels in thin rubber sheets, gluing them together and inflating them with a football pump; It worked and thus the pneumatic tyre was born.
It was this creative and entrepreneurial spirit that was to become the ethos of the company, as it remained a pioneer in research and development of products with the aim of enhancing both the performance of vehicles and the driving experience.
The Skinflint team are thrilled to release their latest collection the Dunlop Aerospace Factory Lights, salvaged entirely from the Holbrook Lane site.
