Government Offices, London.

A four year refurbishment of the Government Offices on the prominent position of Whitehall and Parliament Square.

The centre piece of the development called for a contemporary lighting insertion within the entrance stair of the existing classical structure.

18 months of development and prototypes led to a stunningly modern interpretation of the traditional chandelier concept. Upon entry to the Treasury, global visitors are welcomed into the building by seven concentric polycarbonate rings ranging from 1800mm to 800mm in diameter, occupying a height of over 8 metres and suspended upon a raise and lower mechanism to permit ease of maintenance. Illumination is via a 1000W CDM (E40) located inside a light focus and antiglare arrangement within the architectural dome.

The simple lines of the final piece mask many months of research, design and collaboration between the various partners.
